Studying Chinese

Taiwan will be saved by the Taiwanese.

Speaking the language of the people is vital.

Crossing language barriers is a part of life in Taipei.

Teaching English

Enter the workforce of Taiwan.

It’s a world where your boss has completely different values, where working overtime is expected, and where direct communication is not regularly practiced. As an English teacher, you will encounter all of this. As an English teacher, you will also find yourself in an international community of native English speakers from all over the world. This is not an ordinary workforce, but our responsibility to be an ambassador in Taipei’s workforce is as great as it is anywhere else.

Meet the students.

The academic life and student culture of the average elementary student in Taiwan is much more stressful than that of the average student in an American elementary school. As one of the many teachers these students have during the week, you will discover how this pressure affects them as people and affects you as their English instructor.

Language Exchange

Language exchange goes both ways. Two different worlds opened and exposed the perspectives and ideas of the other. This experience is not without its challenges, and the possibilities for connection are profound.

Learning another language widens your world. It opens doors that would never be open to you unless you spoke that language. It’s a compelling experience that sometimes seems to leave your own cultural concept in shambles.

Building Relationships

In Taiwan, the primary foundation of reaching out to our friends who need Jesus is relationship. Through relationship, we get to know them, care for them, love them, share life with them, and earn their trust. Building relationships is a central element to the ministry of the Ximen Loft.

God created us for community, with the capacity to connect with other people. An essential part of the ministry here in Ximen is the team and our community-based ministry practice.

Relationships are built with team members, co-workers, students, people on the street, Chinese teachers. These relationships become the meeting points between the people of Taiwan and God’s love.
